Military Service

Michael Lebow served in the United States Army in both the 82nd Airborne division and the United Nations Security Joint Security Area Panmunjom, Korea.

The 82nd Airborne Division is a storied unit with a rich history within the United States Army. The 82nd Airborne Division is one of the most iconic and recognizable units in the U.S. Army, known for its rapid deployment capabilities and its distinctive maroon berets worn by its paratroopers.

The 82nd Airborne Division is an integral part of the US Army expeditionary force. It is known for its readiness to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours, a capability that stems from its designation as an airborne unit. The soldiers undergo specialized airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia, which includes parachute operations and air assault training, making them highly skilled in rapid insertion and airfield seizure missions. The home base of the 82nd is Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In addition to his time at Fort Bragg, Dr. Lebow served with The United Nations Command in Panmunjom Korea. Panmunjom, also known as the Joint Security Area, is a small village located in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which serves as the border between North and South Korea. It is one of the most heavily fortified areas in the world and is known for its historical significance in the context of the Korean War. It is the site of numerous inter-Korean and international diplomatic negotiations.
